The Information Communications Technology Centre of the Kaduna State University was on Friday razed by fire.

The fire, which started at about 11am, burnt a section of the centre, which was donated by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).

An eyewitness, Bello Jibrin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the intervention of firefighters from state’s fire service and men of the Nigerian Army saved the building from being burned completely.

He said, “We were in our lecture theatre when we saw smoke coming out of the building. Then we rushed out to save some of the computers and other properties.”

The Director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, Paul Oboy, confirmed the incident, saying: “The fire occurred at about 11am when students were in their classrooms.

“We responded swiftly as soon as we received the distress call and we were able to save some parts of the building. We are happy no lives were lost from the incident.”

He said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, but it would be properly investigated. He said after investigating the cause of the fire, measures would be taken to ensure that there was no repeat occurrence in the school.
