Gov. Ortom Of Benue State Appeals Against Reprisal Attacks

Worried by imminent reprisal attack by aggrieved herdsmen as a result of the death of more than 30 persons in Loko local government area of Nasarawa State by suspected Agatu farmers from Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom has passionately appealed to the herdsmen not to embark on a reprisal attack.

Gov. Ortom lamented over the recent escalation of hostilities between the two groups, maintaining that it is happening at a time, government is making frantic efforts to nip any crisis in the bud.

While harping on the need for both groups to live in peace and within the ambit of the law, he assured that government will meet with his Nasarawa State counterpart Alhaji Tanko Almakura to ensure that there is no further escalation of the crisis.

Leader of Fulani community in Agatu, Ardo Adamu Bori accused the Agatu people of conniving with their brothers to cross over to Loko and kill his people.

According to him, the Agatu people attacked 2 persons, killed and beheaded another, adding that several cows were also, killed..
But Mr. Akpa Idu who spoke on behalf of the Agatu people, out rightly denied the accusation, insisting that they are a peace and hospitable people who have co-habited with the Fulani people for a long time. He advocated for constitution of a Joint military/ Police Force to monitor both borders.
