Federal Government Explains the Challenges of Lagos-Ibadan Road Project

The Ministry of Works has said that the contractor handling the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan express way are facing some challenges of finance, adverse weather and impatient motorists.

Mr Nelson olubakinde, the representative of the Ministry told newsmen in Ibadan that Reynolds Construction Company is facing challenges like weather, finance, and impatience of road users often resulting in accidents.


The construction program valued at N96.3billion commenced on June 4 and was slated to finish on July 3rd 2017.

Olubakinde however said the construction effort was under Public Private Partnership arrangement with Motorway Assets Limited as leasee,  while the Ministry was the guarantor.

Speaking on the standard of the job done, Olubakinde said new methods in road construction has been brought to bear on the project.

He said "for example, apart from the thickness of the road which has been enhanced, it has also expanded to ensure free traffic flow".


He also said the construction themed Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Expansion had reached 25.98 percent completion in spite of challenges faced.

The Ministry's Representative also said, apart from ensuring the stability of the project, a sub section of the road has been opened for use in the past one year to pave way for correction of any defects.

The other end of the road from Shagamu inter-change to Lagos is being handled by Julius Berger Plc, with RCC in charge of the other end to Ibadan.
