Aisha Yesufu, one of the leaders of the Bring Back Our Girls group has criticized Nigerian leaders who marry young girls who are still in school.
Yesufu stated that the leaders should be protecting the girl child and not marrying them in their early teens.
The BBOG co-convener made the comments on Wednesday while speaking at a two-day conference on the social protection of the girl child, in Abuja
Yesufu also said that men who marry girls in their early teens should be treated as pedophiles by the society.
She said, "if we keep saying something and doing the opposite, it makes no sense. If we are saying that we want to protect the girl child and want them to go to school then our leaders should not be marrying them."
" A situation whereby someone already has 3 wives and goes to marry a girl 30 years his junior because he is a leader; what does that say to other girls her age?"
" A person who can do that as far as I am concerned is a pedophile and should be treated as such"
