NUPENG Suspends Strike in Port Harcourt

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and its affiliate Union PENGASSEN has suspended its strike.
The union also directed all its members to start lifting petroleum products to supply fuel stations in Rivers State, the Port Harcourt zone of NUPENG and PENGASSEN had embarked on a sympathy strike following the alleged assault of their members by office of the Rivers State Police Command and the Management of Weather Ford Nigeria Limited for the illegal termination of the employment of some of their workers.
The few days of non distribution of Premium Motor Spirit PMS, was begining to take its toll on motorists in the state.
South South Zonal Chairman of NUPENG, Godwin Eruba said the prompt intervention of Rivers State Government saved the situation.
Eruba told news men in Port Harcourt that an agreement has been reached with all the parties involved in the issues that led to the strike.
He said NUPENG will be holding a meeting with the management of Weatherford Nigeria Limited in the next few days.
He said "i want to use this medium to appeal to all our members who joined in the sympathy strike to please go back to work. you can start distributing petroleum products. We thank you for co-operating with us''.
