Imo state Commissioner for Police, Mr Taiwo Fredrick Lakanu, has advised students to try as much as possible to be security conscious in order to avoid unnecessary risks.
In a lecture delivered on his behalf by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Nnacheta Chukwudi, at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Owerri, auditorium, recently, he gave useful tips on how they should be security conscious as they thrived to make it in life.
He described “consciousness” as a word meaning to be aware of something, while “security consciousness” meant security awareness and reminded them that as students of college or secondary schools they were prone to risks and dangers at home, school and on transit. In any of these situations, he said, anything could happen to stop them from achieving their set goals.
Lakanu, who commended Tummy Tummy Foods and the Project Coordinator, Mr Kingsley Ndukwu, for making the platform of the lecture available, said, “even in their various homes, they should know that not everybody likes them; therefore, they should know the people they should interact with.”
He also urged them to be well-informed, stressing that it was an aspect of being aware which was needed to form their character and also understand the kind of environment they found themselves in.
While asking them to be on the alert or remain vigilant at all times, whether at a place or when travelling in a vehicle, he said it would enable them to be pro-active and raise the alarm for assistance when needed.
